The 2007-08 season marks Kevin Prendergast’s 25th season in professional hockey and his 18th as a member of the Oilers since joining the organization in 1990-91. His ninth season as Vice President of Hockey Operations, sees an expanded list of responsibilities for Prendergast following the departure of Scott Howson to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Working closely with General Manager Kevin Lowe, the 56-year-old native of Verdun, Quebec heads-up all aspects of the Hockey Operations department. As the man in charge of the Oilers’ NHL Entry Draft list, he oversees the team’s pro and amateur scouting staffs, coordinating coverage of the NHL, AHL and ECHL as well as the major junior teams of the Canadian Hockey League, the U.S. collegiate and high school ranks and the European leagues. His duties also include the coordination of the Oilers’ annual training camp.
Prendergast serves as the Oilers’ representative on the American Hockey League’s board of governors and serves as the Director of Player Personnel for both the Springfield Falcons (AHL) and Stockton Thunder (ECHL).
Prendergast joined the Oilers following seven seasons working with NHL Central Scouting as the Assistant Director of Scouting. From 1983-84 to 1989-90 he was responsible for all scouting assignments and scheduling while also scouting the three major junior hockey leagues. In 1985-86 he also worked with the Canadian National Team in preparation for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary.
Graduating from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978, he quarterbacked the Huskies football team to three consecutive Atlantic Universities Athletic Association conference championships from 1975 to 1977. He also played one season with the Verdun Maple Leafs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and was the leading scorer for the Dawson College Blues of Montreal for two consecutive seasons before attending Saint Mary’s University.
Kevin and his wife Bridget reside in Sherwood Park with their daughter Britt and son Matthew.
