Taylor Hall opened the scoring for Edmonton in the first period but it was all Dallas after that, scoring once in the second and three times in the third en route to a 4-1 Oilers loss to wrap up their seven-game road trip on Saturday afternoon.

Jamie Benn and Mike Ribeiro each scored twice to lead the way for the Stars while Gagner and Smid picked up the assists on Hall's goal.

FIRST PERIOD

The best chance in the early-going came off the stick of Stars captain Brendan Morrow. He one-timed a shot from the high slot that Oilers starting goalie Nikolai Khabibulin had to be quick in coming across and making the save.

About a minute later, Jordan Eberle injured his knee during a harmless looking play in the Edmonton zone. He went off for observation.

Edmonton took the game's first penalty with 6:56 to play after Sam Gagner received two for delay-of-game for lifting the puck out of play from his own zone.

With 30 seconds left in the penalty, the Stars came within inches of getting the game's first goal. Morrow had the puck at the side of the net where he threw it across the crease. Ribeiro was perched at the opposite side but couldn't bat it in.

Gagner came out of the penalty box as the Oilers attacked towards the Dallas zone on a two-on-one, making it a three-on-one. Horcoff fired it from the right circle and it was stopped by Stars goalie Richard Bachman.

After several minutes of great chances, the Oilers finally got on the board first late in the period. Taylor Hall's shot ricocheted off a Stars defender and into the Dallas net.

Shots on goal after one were nine apiece with Edmonton up 1-0 on the scoreboard.

SECOND PERIOD

Mike Ribeiro got injured in the neutral zone early in the second period on a collision with Theo Peckham. During the same shift, Steve Ott connected with a head shot on Anton Lander, knocking down the Oilers rookie for a few moments. Josh Green jumped to the rescue of Lander, fighting Ott.

The result of the exchange was a two-minute power play for Edmonton but they were unable to generate much in the way of scoring chances. About a minute after the Ott minor expired, Taylor Hall took a holding penalty to give Dallas its first man advantage of the game. Edmonton was able to kill off the penalty.

The Stars swarmed the Oilers zone late in the period, first Loui Eriksson just missed on a close-in opportunity and then moments later Eriksson, Trevor Daley and Jamie Benn worked a nice three-way passing play that culminated in Daley from behind the goal line spying Benn in front for a quick one-two punch and a tie game.

Shots in the middle frame were once again 9-9. The score was also tied -- each time with one goal.

THIRD PERIOD

1:45 into the final frame, the Stars took a penalty for having too many men on the ice, putting the Oilers on the power play with a chance to regain the lead.

The Oilers were unable to generate much in the way of chances during their two-minute man-power advantage and the Stars used that momentum to go on the attack after it expired. Morrow tried to turn around a quick feed from the slot but it went over the net. Jake Dowell's rebound just went off the edge of Khabibulin's blocker as the puck bounced wildly.

Right off the faceoff with 13 minutes left, Jamie Benn picked up a loose puck during a mad scramble in front of the Oilers net moments after Khabibulin made a great stop in-close on Adam Burish. Benn scooped it over a fallen Khabibulin, who was tackled in the crease by Burish for the 2-1 lead.

Dallas nearly made it a 3-1 game when Radek Dvorak took a feed from Eric Nystrom on a two-on-one. Dvorak had an opening but fired it high over the net.

Shots midway through the third were 11 to 2 for Dallas.

With 6:21 to play, the Stars struck again to make it a two-goal game. Mike Ribeiro's centering attempt as he skated behind the net went off Josh Green and in for the 3-1 marker.

Ribeiro added an empty-netter in the dying minutes to clinch the outcome for the Stars.
