EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Jussi Jokinen and the Dallas Stars are perfect in shootouts - and the Finnish rookie is pretty good on penalty shots, too.
Jokinen and Sergei Zubov scored in a shootout to give the Stars their ninth victory without a loss in the NHL's new tiebreaker, 4-3 over the Edmonton on Tuesday night.
Jokinen, 9-for-9 in shootouts, also scored on a second-period penalty shot with the Stars on a power play after Steve Staios hooked Jokinen on a breakaway.
"It's pretty hard to explain it," Jokinen said. "I enjoy that situation. It's like a 1-on-1 battle between me and the goalie."
Jokinen used similar moves to beat Ty Conklin on the penalty shot and Mike Morrison in the shootout.
"That move is unbelievable," Calgary forward Ryan Smyth said. "I've never seen a guy do it twice in one game."
Philippe Boucher and Antti Miettinen also scored in regulation to help the Stars win for the third time in four games against Edmonton this season.
With the shootout victory, the Stars moved within two points of Detroit for the Western Conference lead with their 20th road victory of the season.
"It's a huge confidence for us," Turco said. "It's two guys doing it and carrying the rest of the guys on their back."
With Edmonton down 3-1 at the start the third period, Smyth sent a rebound past Marty Turco early for his team-leading 29th goal. Horcoff then tied it with 10:57 to go, beating Turco off a rebound.
The Oilers, 6-6 in shootouts, used Mike Morrison in goal in the tiebreaker after Ty Conklin stopped 23 shots in regulation and overtime.
"I don't make the decisions," Conklin said. "I would have made a different one."
Turco finished with 26 saves for the Stars, and stopped Ales Hemsky and Smyth in the shootout.
"We"re feeling pretty comfortable in the shootout," Stars coach Dave Tippett said. "We like our chances."
Notes: Hemsky and Chris Pronger each had two assists for the Oilers. ... Shooters have scored on 30 of 83 penalty shots this season. ... Oilers center Michael Peca returned from a groin injury. ... Edmonton sent rookie center Yan Stastny to Iowa of the AHL.
