ST. LOUIS (AP) - Edmonton took advantage of the St. Louis Blues' worst game of the season.
Jarrett Stoll had his first career two-goal game and added two assists to help the Oilers win their fifth straight and hand the St. Louis Blues their seventh consecutive loss, 7-2 Friday night.
``We're not a very competent team right now,'' Blues coach Mike Kitchen said. ``Tonight's game was the poorest we've skated as a team.''
It is the Blues' longest losing streak since St. Louis (2-8-3) dropped seven in a row from Feb. 12-25, 1989.
Stoll scored his first goal just 1:45 in, on the Oilers' first shot, to give Edmonton the lead for good. Ryan Smyth also had two goals, including one on a penalty shot in the second period. Smyth scored his seventh of the season during a power play at 8:04 of the third period.
``We got great play from everyone and it was good for us to get the offense going,'' Stoll said. ``Hopefully we can build off this game.''
``We had some guys do some nice things offensively,'' MacTavish said. ``The bottom line for us was our goaltending was really good and we capitalized on our opportunities.''
Bryce Salvador scored at 13:32 of the first period to cut the Blues' deficit to 2-1. Lee Stempniak scored his first career NHL goal with 1:04 remaining to get St. Louis to 6-2.
``We're last in the league because we deserve to be last in the league,'' Blues defenseman Eric Brewer said. ``We just didn't play well tonight and we need to suck it up and play better hockey.''
Stoll's second goal of the game and fourth of the season was scored on a power play 1:39 into the second period and gave Edmonton a 3-1 advantage.
``It was good we got up a couple of goals early,'' MacTavish said.
Oilers forward Raffi Torres, who scored the winning goal in overtime at Detroit on Thursday, had a career-high three assists. He extended his point streak to a career-best six games.
The game marked the return of Oilers defenseman Chris Pronger, who spent nine years with the Blues before he was traded this summer.
``It felt pretty good out there,'' Pronger said. ``It's even better that we got the win and the two points.''
St. Louis' Patrick Lalime allowed four goals on 15 shots in the first two periods and lost his fifth straight game. He was replaced at the start of the third by Reinhard Divis, who stopped 10 of 13 shots.
Edmonton's Markkanen made 34 saves.
Notes: Pronger was greeted by cheers when he was announced into the starting lineup. ... The Oilers' previous win in St. Louis was Feb. 13, 1999. The Blues were 8-0-3 in that span. ... Edmonton's Shawn Horcoff had his five-game point streak stopped. ... Blues forward Eric Boguniecki was assigned to Peoria of the AHL for a conditioning stint. ... Edmonton's previous penalty shot was March 4, 2004, when Smyth was stopped by St. Louis' Chris Osgood.
