DALLAS (AP) - The Edmonton Oilers think they've finally reversed more than a decade of frustration in Texas.
Radek Dvorak scored the tiebreaking goal at 8:12 of the third period and the Oilers snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the Dallas Stars on Friday night.
Edmonton has won two straight in Dallas. Before that, the Oilers were 1-18-2 in Texas since the Stars moved from Minnesota in 1993.
``We're two-for-two,'' Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said. ``Now, hopefully, the momentum is shifting. We needed that win desperately. The more you lose, the more the confidence goes down.''
Dallas had capitalized on a two-man advantage when Brenden Morrow scored at 5:14 of the third period to tie it at 3.
But Dvorak notched his second of the season from the slot off a feed from Ethan Moreau, paving the way for the Oilers' first win since Oct. 10.
``It was a good forecheck (by Moreau) and a good finish,'' Dvorak said. ``It's nice to score this kind of goal. It's huge after a seven-game losing streak.''
Stars goaltender Marty Turco handled the puck on the play and tried to pass to defenseman Martin Skoula, but Moreau ended up with possession to set up Dvorak.
``That's Turco putting Skoula in a real bad spot and then (Skoula) overskating the puck and not recovering,'' Stars coach Dave Tippett said.
Raffi Torres added a power-play goal at 16:36, his seventh of the season, to stretch Edmonton's lead to 5-3.
Dallas has lost three of four at home, and Tippett said his team is getting beat on fundamentals.
``There's hundreds of little parts that make up a game,'' Tippett said. ``The more of those hundreds that you do well at, the better your chance to win. We obviously didn't do that.''
The Oilers took a 3-2 lead at 16:43 of the second period when Ryan Smyth tapped a loose puck past Turco.
Dallas rallied to tie it at 2. Bill Guerin scored at 8:22 of the second period and Mike Modano struck from the left circle 30 seconds later before Smyth put Edmonton back in front.
``We keep shooting ourselves in the foot,'' Guerin said. ``We get the game tied 2-2 and we give it right up. Little mistakes add up to big problems. If you fold the tent and get frustrated, you're not going to get much. We're not putting everything we have into it.''
Bergeron's shot from the left point got past Turco with 35 seconds remaining in the first period to give Edmonton a 1-0 advantage.
Markkanen had a strong opening period, keeping the Stars scoreless despite Dallas' 12-4 shots advantage.
Cross got his first goal of the season at 2:29 of the second period, while the Stars had 14 seconds left on a power play, to make it 2-0.
``Obviously we have a big rivalry (with Dallas),'' Cross said. ``We haven't had a lot of success in this building. We were able to win. It's a big relief.''
Notes: Smyth scored his 200th career goal. ... Edmonton set a season-high for goals in a game. The Oilers had scored only 11 goals during their losing streak. ... Morrow had his 100th career goal. ... The Stars failed to record a shot on goal during a two-man advantage early in the second period. ... Dallas' two goals in 30 seconds of the second period was its fastest consecutive goals of the season.
