Chicago Blackhawks 2, Edmonton Oilers 5 FINAL

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - No matter what city or country they're in, the Chicago Blackhawks just can't win on the road.

Shawn Horcoff scored twice and the Edmonton Oilers extended Chicago's club-record road losing steak to 19 games Thursday night with a 5-2 victory.

George Laraque, Fernando Pisani and Ethan Moreau also scored for the Oilers, who ended their three-game losing skid and improved to 3-0 against Chicago this season.

Tommy Salo made 30 saves for Edmonton, which is 2-4-1-0 in its last seven games overall.

"He was good," Blackhawks coach Brian Sutter said. "He was unbelievable in the first. We could've been up 4-0 or 5-0 by the 10-minute mark. And the mistakes we made in the second period, they buried them."

Kyle Calder opened the scoring in the first minute and Bryan Berard also had a goal for the Blackhawks, who have lost three straight and are 1-7 in their last eight games.

Chicago hasn't won on the road since beating the Predators 2-1 in Nashville on Nov. 7. The Blackhawks only have one road point since then, losing 3-2 in overtime against the Vancouver Canucks on Nov. 20.

With Edmonton trailing 1-0 after one period, Horcoff scored on a bungled short-handed breakaway in the second to pull the Oilers even, then added another strange goal before the end of the period to make it 3-1.

"I got a couple of lucky bounces, but good teams win because of those bounces," Horcoff said. "The way I've been struggling to score, I was just happy to see the pucks go in."

With Chicago dominating play early in the first period, Berard's shot deflected in off Calder 45 seconds in. It was Calder's team-leading 15th goal of the season, one more than Mark Bell.

"First shot, they scored, but after that I settled down, made some big saves and the guys scored big goals in the second period," Salo said. "Sometimes you are lucky, and tonight was a lucky game for me."

Horcoff tied the score at 7:33 of the second. He appeared to lose the puck while closing in on Blackhawks goaltender Craig Anderson, but Berard crashed into him and the puck slid across the line.

Eric Brewer earned an assist on the goal for his 100th NHL point.

Laraque gave Edmonton the lead at 7:33 with his first goal in 36 games this season. He hit Moreau with a rink-wide pass on the rush, Moreau deked past Johnathan Aitken in the Chicago zone and whipped a backhand that deflected in off Laraque.

Horcoff made it 3-1 at 15:31, his eighth this season.

Ryan Smyth dropped the puck back to Pisani, whose shot trickled toward the net. Smyth and Horcoff both chopped at the puck and Smyth's shot bounced off Horcoff's stick and past Anderson.

"It's breaks like that we've just got to stop somehow," Berard said. "You see these things when you're not winning games. These are things we've got to learn from. It's frustrating."

Berard beat Salo from the slot at 8:35 of the third, his seventh, to cut it to 3-2, but Pisani wristed Smyth's feed past Anderson at 12:04 to restore the two-goal lead.

Moreau scored a short-handed goal into an empty net at 17:17, his 11th, to close the scoring.

Anderson finished with 27 saves.

Notes: With cold temperatures in Edmonton, the Oilers and a local towing company were offering fans free boosts in the parking lot after the game. ... Edmonton captain Jason Smith returned to the lineup after missing 14 games with a sprained left ankle. ... Oilers center Mike York will have surgery Friday on his left index finger, which was broken by a slap shot in the third period of a 3-1 loss in Colorado on Tuesday night. The team's leading scorer will be out three to six weeks. ... Edmonton native Mike Bishai, recalled from Toronto of the AHL on Wednesday, was scoreless in his NHL debut with the Oilers.
