NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tomas Vokoun looked at the big picture after losing a shutout by nine seconds.

"It's a disappointment not to get the shutout, but I don't play hockey for shutouts," said Vokoun, who made 21 saves for his 20th victory of the season in Nashville's 2-1 win over Edmonton on Saturday night. "I play for wins and we got the win.

"It's great to get my 20th win, not so much for the personal stats, but for the team. But it's not over. We still have 34 games left. And they are going to be 34 tough ones."

Ryan Smyth ended the shutout, poking the puck past Vokoun.

The Predators extended their unbeaten string to six games overall and their home unbeaten streak to nine games.

Nashville held Edmonton to only two shots in the first period.

"Nashville came out hard and put a lot of pressure on us," Edmonton coach Craig MacTavish said. "We gave the puck away too much and it added to the pressure we were putting on ourselves."

Nashville's Scott Walker opened the scoring midway through the second period. Walker took a shot from the far side of the right circle that deflected off an Edmonton skater and into the net past goalie Tommy Salo.

"We just wanted to go to the net," Walker said. "It wasn't a hard shot. Their guy just kicked it in."

Greg Johnson scored a short-handed goal at 8:28 of the third period when he took a pass from Walker in the slot and beat Salo with a shot while the goalie was out of position.

It was the second short-handed goal of the season for Johnson and his fourth game-winning goal.

An apparent second goal by Walker less than three minutes later was disallowed when a video review revealed he kicked the puck in.

"I thought it was more of a solid team effort from our hockey team," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "We were playing a hard forechecking style and getting on them. I thought we executed for the most part and ran our game plan very well."
