The Edmonton Oilers return to Rexall Place tonight for another brief two-game homestand as they face the Detroit Red Wings.

The Oilers have a record of 5-7-0 on the season so far and despite their below .500 status have been able to stay with the pack as far as the Western Conference playoff race is concerned in this young season.

In their last game, the Oilers came scored a late shorthanded goal by Andrew Cogliano to force overtime before winning in the shootout over the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 on Sunday night. The win gave the club a split on their two-game Southern California road trip. LAST GAME: Oilers 3, Ducks 2 (SO) Detroit has once again shown that they are the class of the league. They come into tonight’s game having won five straight and currently sit first overall in the NHL with 19 points and a record of 9-2-1.
