Flames-Oilers Preview
Calgary Flames vs. Edmonton Oilers

GAME: Calgary Flames (19-9-4) at Edmonton Oilers (18-11-4).

TIME: Monday, 9 p.m. EST.

Although Edmonton's Rexall Place is nearly 190 miles from Calgary, it feels like home to the Flames.

Calgary tries to extend its point streak at the Oilers' home arena to seven games when the Alberta archrivals meet in Edmonton for the first time this season.

Off to their best start since 1988-89, when they opened 22-5-5 en route to a franchise-record 117 points and their only Stanley Cup, the Flames have won three straight and are 5-0-1 in the last six games.

Calgary has been equally dominant of late against its provincial rivals to the north, going 5-0-1 in its last six visits to Rexall.

The Flames, though, will face an Oilers club that is 4-0-3 in its last seven games, including two shootout losses and one overtime defeat. Edmonton has recorded points in 10 of its previous 11 games (7-1-3).

The Flames kept rolling Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Boston, as Miikka Kiprusoff made 26 saves for his league-best fifth shutout of the season.

Dion Phaneuf, Tony Amonte and Stephane Yelle scored first-period goals for Calgary, which hadn't played since a 2-1 win over Ottawa a week earlier.

"If you move the guys out in front and box out, he's going to stop it if he can see it," Phaneuf said of Kiprusoff. "He made some big saves for us and he's a very consistent guy on a nightly basis."

Kiprusoff is 12-2-2 with a 1.51 goals-against average in his last 16 starts. He's 4-1-1-1 with a 0.98 goals-against average against the Oilers in his career, allowing one goal or less six times.

Edmonton, meanwhile, has had no problem scoring of late, totaling 10 goals - five on the power play - in consecutive wins over Montreal and Vancouver.

In the Oilers' 5-4 overtime victory over the Canucks on Saturday, Michael Peca scored at 4:08 of the extra period after his team rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the third.

"They were being real aggressive all night," Peca said of the Canucks. "On the power play and on the 4-on-4, the defensemen were really pushing up. For me, it was really just a matter of trying to get the puck to (Ales) Hemsky because he had already made the turn and had some speed. When the puck came back to me, I thought about trying to go far-side high but didn't want to miss the net at that point, so I went to the backhand and was fortunate that it went in."

Edmonton leading scorer Jarret Stoll had two assists, giving him three goals and eight points in his last seven games.

Stoll has just one assist in eight career games against the Flames.

Calgary is 10-2-1-2 against Edmonton in the last 15 meetings.
