RECAP: Stars 3, Oilers 2

DALLAS, TX – Tyler Seguin tallied a pair of second period goals as the Dallas Stars beat the Oilers 3-2 on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center to open Edmonton's three-game road trip, extending the losing skid to seven.

Rookie blueliner John Klingberg sprung Seguin on a breakaway 5:59 into the middle frame and he deked to his backhand to beat goalie Viktor Fasth top shelf. Seguin struck again at 17:42, scoring on a top-shelf wrist shot from the high slot. He now has 17 goals on the season to lead the Stars.

"We were over-skating the puck and cheating, and that's not how you win games," Jordan Eberle said post-game regarding the breakdowns that led to Seguin's goals. "We're beating ourselves… Last year teams were beating us, this year we're beating ourselves."

"The game was there," added Head Coach Dallas Eakins, as the Oilers out-shot the Stars 37-34. "This should have been a game we were able to close out 3-2 or 2-1. We can't make those mistakes… this league is too close to give other teams chances like that."

It was Klingberg who opened the scoring at 12:49 of the first period, fooling Fasth with a high slap shot from beyond the Oilers blueline for his third goal in just eight games since getting called up from the AHL's Texas Stars.

The Oilers got their first goal of the night with 30 seconds left in the opening frame, as Boyd Gordon called his own number on a shorthanded two-on-one rush, getting denied by Lehtonen on his first attempt but banking the rebound off the goalie's pad and in.

The SHG was Gordon's fourth goal and sixth point of the season in his 22nd game. The centreman had eight goals in 74 games last year. Jeff Petry recorded the only assist on the Oilers tally for his third point of the season.

The Oilers cut the Dallas lead to 3-2 in the third period as Taylor Hall scored his 100th NHL goal on a beautiful no-look feed from Jordan Eberle behind the Stars net. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also assisted on the play for his 100th NHL helper.

"It's nice, but it would have been nicer if we won," Hall said of the milestone tally. "It's not the same feeling when you lose."

Despite missing six games with a knee injury, Hall leads the Oilers in goals with eight, while Eberle picked up his team-leading 15th point of the season on the tally. That was as close as the visitors could make it, though, as Dallas held on for their third consecutive win.

Next up for the Oilers is the second matchup in their three-game road trip as they visit Music City for a Thursday night showdown with the Nashville Predators (14-5-2). It may only be the end of November, but this will be the finale of their 2014-15 season series, with the Predators winning 4-1 in Edmonton on Oct. 29 and 3-2 in Nashville on Nov. 11.

Hall, Benoit Pouliot and Nail Yakupov scored in those games, while Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins each have a pair of assists against Nashville this season. Thursday's game time is 6pm MT on Sportsnet 360 and 630 CHED.
