ST. LOUIS, MO - Buoyed by Ryan Whitney's first goal of the season, the Edmonton Oilers were leading the St. Louis Blues 2-0 after the opening period but it was the Blues that rallied with two goals in each of the second and third periods to win on home ice, 4-2.

FIRST PERIOD

Seven minutes into the game, St. Louis had a 7-0 edge in shots on goal.

Ryan Reaves took an interference penalty while in the Oilers zone, giving Edmonton the power play and a chance to get on the offensive.

The team's best chance came when Ales Hemsky danced in around the Blues defenders and fired a shot glove side but Halak deflected it away.

St. Louis went on its first power play at the 11:58 mark when Sam Gagner received a penalty for cross checking.

With 39 seconds left in the Gagner penalty, the Blues took a penalty for having too many men on the ice but Oilers were unable to generate a shot in the abbreviated man advantage.

The Oilers connected for the game's first goal with 2:30 to play in the opening frame. Justin Schultz pinched down low and picked up the puck on a broken play off a rush up ice with Taylor Hall. Hall ended up banging it in.

23 seconds later, Ryan Whitney scored to make it 2-0. Ryan Smyth carried the puck into the zone and Whitney pinched to create a two-on-one situation. Whitney made no mistake, rifling it past Halak for the goal.

The final shot count in the opening period was 8-7 for St. Louis. After the Blues rattled off the first seven shots in the game, Edmonton outshot the Blues 7-1 through the remaining 13 minutes of the period.

SECOND PERIOD

St. Louis scored 3:38 into the middle frame to cut Edmonton's lead in half. A shot attempt from T.J. Oshie was blocked and the puck found its way onto the stick of Jaden Schwartz who fired the puck past Dubnyk as the Oilers defenceman was trying to find his way across the crease.

The Oilers nearly got that one back as the puck got in behind the Blues defence. Jaroslav Halak charged out of the net and slid to knock the puck out of harm's way, losing his stick in the process.

6:41 into the period, St. Louis took their second too many men on the ice penalty of the night, sending Edmonton back on the power play.

With 10:04 left in the period, Smid drilled Schwartz into the boards in the corner of the Oilers zone and received two minutes for boarding as a result.

On the ensuing man advantage, Kevin Shattenkirk teed up a blast from the point that beat a screened Dubnyk to tie the game up.

St. Louis outshot Edmonton 11 to 4 in the middle frame.

THIRD PERIOD

The third period began and Taylor Hall was not on the Oilers bench after having left partway through the second. The Oilers announced that it was a leg injury which will keep him out of the rest of the game.

St. Louis took its first lead of teh game at the 4:28 mark when Vladimir Sobotka picked up the puck behind the Oilers net and peeled around before firing it short side for the goal.

With less than 10 minutes to go in the period, shots on goal were 28 to 14 for the home team.

David Backes added a goal to make it 4-2 Blues, firing a shot from the right circle past Dubnyk.

Blues hold onto the lead and go on to win, 4-2 again the Oilers. Shots on net were 30 - 17 for the Oilers.
