Edmonton Oilers Now Accepting 50/50 Applications for 2009-2010 Season

The Edmonton Oilers are now accepting applications from registered charities and minor hockey and ringette associations who are interested in participating in the 50/50 fundraising program. Applicants must fall within one of the following categories:

1. Charitable organizations registered with the Canada Revenue Agency with a focus in one of the following areas: youth programs, education and/or health and wellness. For more information, please visit: http://oilers.nhl.com/eocf/eocf5050.htm

2. Minor hockey or ringette associations within Northern Alberta. For more information, please visit: http://oilers.nhl.com/community/newminorhockey5050.htm

Organizations participating in the 50/50 fundraising program are required to provide between 62 and 65 volunteers for the allocated game night. These volunteers will participate in selling tickets, counting cash and handling ticket stubs for a total commitment of approximately five hours.

Edmonton Oilers captain Ethan Moreau has been named this year’s recipient of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.  The award is presented annually to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.

The presentation was made June 18 at the 2009 NHL Awards Gala at the Pearl Concert Theater, located inside th/e Palms Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main focus of Moreau's work in the community has been the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation’s (EOCF) Inner City High School project.

Established in 2001, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) continues the Oilers legacy of giving back by contributing its unique resources and financial support to charitable organizations that serve the communities of Northern Alberta.  Led by a dedicated community Board of Directors, the EOCF has developed a number of programs and partnerships that target those who need it most.

The EOCF raises its funds through a variety of fundraising initiatives that take place during Oilers home games and the generous contributions of Oilers fans and friends.
 
The Foundation gives back in excess of $1 million annually to charitable organizations registered with Revenue Canada who focus their activities on educational initiatives, health and wellness, and youth programs.
