Other Programs: 50/50 | Community Corner | ICE School | Raise a Reader | Seats for Kids | Share a Book

The Edmonton Oilers ICE School program is a site-based educational initiative that gives teachers and students in Edmonton and area the opportunity to move their classrooms into the fascinating world of Rexall Place and Northlands for an entire week.  There they have time to read, write, observe, interview, and calculate.  Use of a journal to collect facts, sketches and impressions is a cornerstone of the experience.

The week in ICE School is the focus of an extended study that is planned and implemented by the participating teacher.  Each teacher is assisted in the yearlong process by the Program Coordinator, Sandy Van Riper, who works to plan the activites and invterviews that will compliment the class  curriculum. Sandy is an experienced educator - seconded from the Edmonton Public School District.  For an inside look at what ICE School is all about, click here.

The program is made possible through funding from the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation and is operated in co-operation with Northlands, who provide an incredible range of resources.

Loonie for Luck

Seat work at Rexall Place
The teachers and students who come to ICE School enjoy reading the book "Loonie for Luck" by Roy MacGregor.

Here is a teacher's guide if you want to share this book with your students.  When you are finished, you can consider having a video conference with the book's main character, Trent Evans.
