The Edmonton Oilers have joined forces with the one of the most highly respected and longest running hockey schools in the world, Okanagan Hockey Schools, to deliver the 2009 Edmonton Oilers Hockey School presented by EnCana.

Edmonton Oilers Hockey School will give students the opportunity to experience high caliber training while you develop the necessary skills to take your minor hockey game to the next level. With both on-ice and dry land sessions, you’ll learn what it takes to be the best that you can be and you will have a lot of fun as a part of the experience. Plus, a few special guests will drop by during the week, including appearances from Oilers and Oil Kings players and coaches. 

 

The 2009 Edmonton Oilers Hockey School will feature the following:

 
 

Hockey Instructional Program

·         Full day camp running from Sunday to Saturday

·         Professional power skating instruction using leading edge equipment and methods

·         Instruction in wrist, backhand, snap and slap shots

·         Video analysis of skating and shooting

·         Private individual conference with assigned instructor

·         Comprehensive evaluation and player’s handbook

·         Total of 12 ice sessions (Elite and Regular)

 
 

LEARN TO PLAY (5-7 years old)

The Learn to Play Hockey program is an introduction to the basic skills and rules of the game in a fun environment. With the focus being on individual skill development and the ability to understand the rules of the game, the Learn to Play program provides a unique experience for all young players. Program highlights include:

·         One and a half hours of daily instruction

·         Basic Instruction in:

o    Skating

o    Passing

o    Shooting

o    Skating Technique

o    Rules of the Game

·         One Hour of daily off-ice dry land in the form of a fun game to develop hand-eye coordination, balance and agility.

·         High instructor to player ratio 1:5

 
 
ELITE PROGRAM

The Elite Program is for players who have reached a high level of the basic skills for their age and are prepared to undertake a more rigorous program.   Players who register in the Elite Program are required to have played at the Rep. Level.   This program offers 30 minutes extra ice time each day over the regular program.

 
 
 
 
 
 
GOALTENDER’S PROGRAM

·         Basic fundamentals such as skating, stance, angles, lateral movement and save techniques

·         Daily Ice Sessions – Specific instruction concentrating on various save techniques in game simulated situations

·         Goalie Plyometrics – Daily off-ice training instruction including save techniques, movement exercises, hand-eye coordination and goalie specific core strength and plyometric training

 
 
SKILLS COMPETITION

·         NHL style skills competition with electronic timing devices

·         Extensive evaluation process that includes skill comparison with similar aged players

·         Skating Analysis

·         On-Ice Shooting Analysis

·         Hardest Shot

·         Breakaway Challenge

 
 
OFF-ICE CONDITIONING

·         Dynamic off-ice power plyometric and core strength training program

·         Daily off-ice strength and plyometric physical training programs

·         Different areas are covered daily, focusing on:

o    Leg Strength

o    Core Stability

o    Foot Speed & Agility

o    Core Strength

o    Upper Body Power

o    Hand-Eye Coordination & Concentration

 
OFF-ICE PROGRAM

·         Lecture sessions including: motivation, nutrition and goal-setting seminars

·         Customized hockey related DVDs and other supplementary material

·         Player/Instructor Conferences

·         Electronically produced report based on skill results
