The Oilers went through the 2015-16 season without a player wearing the “C” on their chest. They instead elected to go with multiple alternate captains, including Andrew Ference, Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Team North America announced today that Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is one of seven players that have been added to its roster for the World Cup of Hockey 2016.
The top hockey players from Canada and the United States who are 23 or under as of Oct. 1, 2016 are available for selection exclusively by Team North America.
Nugent-Hopkins, 23, has appeared in 55 games with the Oilers

The Oilers had 360-plus man games lost due to injury this season, many of them to major role players on the team. Oscar Klefbom missed 52 games, Connor McDavid’s outstanding rookie season was cut short by 37 games. Eric Gryba, Brandon Davidson and Benoit Pouliot all got hurt down the stretch, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was also plagued by injuries.
