Hurricanes-Oilers Preview

GAME: Carolina Hurricanes (7-11-8-1) at Edmonton Oilers (11-12-3-0).

TIME: Tuesday, 9 p.m. EST.

The Carolina Hurricanes look to snap a three-game winless streak and notch just their third road victory of the season when they continue a four-game trip against the Edmonton Oilers.

Carolina lost 2-1 in overtime at home to the Nashville Predators last Wednesday, and tied the Montreal Canadiens 1-1 at the RBC Center on Friday.

The Hurricanes began their road trip with a 3-1 loss to the Canadiens on Saturday, falling to 2-8-3 on the road this season.

Following Saturday's defeat, Carolina held a players-only meeting.

"We needed to talk about things that we had to talk about as a team," Hurricanes defenseman Bret Hedican said. "It's got nothing to do with anybody else but the 22 guys in this dressing room."

The Hurricanes lost in Edmonton last season, but are 4-2-2 there since the 1993-94 season. Prior to that, Carolina was 2-17-3 all-time in Edmonton.

The Oilers got back on the winning track in their last contest, beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 on Saturday to snap a four-game losing streak and six-game winless skid.

Edmonton trailed 3-2 after two periods, but Cory Cross tied it 25 seconds into the third before Shawn Horcoff gave the Oilers the lead at 2:56 with his first goal in 10 games.

"It's a big relief," Oilers forward Ryan Smyth said. "When you're struggling, it's frustrating. You're squeezing your stick, losing a bit of confidence. But tonight we decided the game was in our hands."

Edmonton's top goalie Tommy Salo, who has missed the last 13 games with a hip injury, should be ready to start Tuesday. Backup Ty Conklin went 6-6-1 during Salo's absence.

Salo is 4-7-2 with a 2.52 goals-against average in his career against the Hurricanes, who continue their trip at Calgary on Thursday before ending it Sunday in Vancouver.
