When students start the day on a full stomach, their attention level and participation in school is positively impacted. With one in six children in Edmonton living in poverty, many children come to school with little or no food in their stomachs. Each school day, E4C’s Snack Program provides a nutritious mid-morning snack or breakfast to students in high-needs elementary schools. The snacks ensure that active, young minds and bodies stay healthy. As a result, the students are better able to focus and learn during school. With funding provided by the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, over 60,000 snacks were served to more than 1,200 students in kindergarten to grade 6 students at five inner city Edmonton schools.
