Jeff Lang begins his 10th season with the Edmonton Oilers, and third as Head Equipment Manager, since joining the team’s training staff in 2003-04. The 40-year-old Regina, Saskatchewan native looks after the coordinating of equipment and supplies used by the Oilers as well as equipment inventory, maintenance and repair.
After earning a Certificate of Athletic Therapy from Mount Royal College in 1997, Lang began his career with the Calgary Royals of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He served four seasons from 1996-97 to 1999-00 as both trainer and equipment manager with the junior team before moving on to Hockey Canada.
With the governing body of hockey in Canada, Lang spent another four seasons (1999-00 to 2002-03) honing his craft as an equipment manager with several national teams. He was a member of the training staff of Canada’s gold medal winning 2002 Olympic Team in Salt Lake City, and also won gold medals with Canada’s men’s national team at the 2002 Spengler Cup and Deutschland Cup teams. He served as equipment manager with the 2003 Under-18 team, which won Canada’s first gold medal at the under-18 world championships in Yaroslavl, Russia. Lang, along with T.D. Forss, were part of Team Canada at the 2012 IIHF World Championship in Helsinki, Finland.
Lang, who was born in Davidson, Saskatchewan, and his wife, Paula, live in Sherwood Park, Alberta with their sons, Hunter (9) and Adam (7).
