The Bakersfield Condors raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and while Alaska made a game of it, the Edmonton Oilers affiliate dispatched the Aces 5-4 in game three of the ECHL Western Conference Finals.
Andrew Carroll tipped home a shot by Gary Steffes at 9:23 of the opening period to put the Condors on the board first.
Joel Broda followed by Jordan Knackstedt put Bakersfield up 3-0 by the 15:20 mark of the first period.
In the second, Alaska got a goal from Tommy Mele to draw within two. The Condors got the response they wanted however as Chase Schaber potted a goal at 12:20 of the second, on the power play.
With the 4-1 lead in hand, it seemed like smooth sailing for the Oilers affiliate but Alaska finished off the middle frame with two straight goals to pull within one again.
Chris Collins scored the Condors’ fifth goal, an insurance score at 18:50 of the third period, with Alaska’s net emptied for the extra attacker.
The Aces would score again with 16 seconds remaining but the Condors would hold on to take the 5-4 win.
Oilers goalie prospect Laurent Brossoit made 28 saves for Bakersfield.
Game four is Saturday night in Bakersfield. The Condors hold a 2-1 series lead.
