The Edmonton Oilers play their second last game before the Christmas break tonight against the St. Louis Blues.

Line Combinations (and defence pairings) for the Oilers:

Ference-J Schultz
N Schultz-Potter

Out: Arcobello (ribs), Jones (head), Larsen (undisclosed)

The game has begun.

16:59: Oilers get off to a good start firing five shots on Blues starting goaltender Brian Elliott in the opening three minutes of the game, carrying the play. St. Louis was yet to register a shot to this point.

11:58: Anton Belov gets two minutes for clearing the puck over the glass, giving St. Louis the game's first power play of the night.

10:13: The man advantage for St. Louis is cut short by a Patrik Berglund two-minute minor, giving Edmonton an abbreviated power play -- their first of the night.
8:03: At the end of the power play, a bad bounce results in a scrambled two-on-one for the Blues. Bryzgalov tries to clear the puck but it's kept in and dished to Chris Stewart. Stewart's shot from the right circle beats Bryzgalov to give St. Louis the 1-0 lead. Shots were 10-2 Oilers at this point. | STL 1, EDM 0
5:26: David Backes heads to the box, giving Edmonton their second power play of the period and a chance to get back on even terms.

3:24: Boyd Gordon returns to the ice for the first time since the opening shift.
0:00: Shots on goal after one period were 14-5 for the Oilers.

Second period is now underway.

15:30: Each team registers two shots in the opening four-and-a-half minutes of the middle frame.

14:10: Ales Hemsky tries to maneouvre the puck around a Blues defender on the rush but can't quite get it past him. The puck goes back the other way and a three-way passing play between Stewart, Derek Roy and Brenden Morrow ends with Stewart finding Morrow in the slot alone for a neat backhand through the legs of Bryzgalov. | STL 2, EDM 0
13:49: Backes hammers Joensuu into the boards, resulting in a two-minute penalty for boarding and another Edmonton man advantage.

11:00: Jeff Petry goes off for tripping.
8:44: Penalty is killed off, but plenty of chances from St. Louis narrows the shot gap to 18-15 for Edmonton.

1:36: Sam Gagner gets his stick on David Backes, resulting in a hooking penalty.

0:00: Second period comes to an end with St. Louis now outshooting Edmonton 19-18.

Third period is now underway.

18:24: Stewart converts a feed from Berglund, snapping home a shot to make it a three goal game. | STL 3, EDM 0
17:22: Jaden Schwartz fires a laser from past the circle that handcuffs Bryzgalov. | STL 4, EDM 0

13:10: Tempers flare behind the Blues net. The result is penalties to Luke Gazdic and David Backes. Backes came before the scrum, hooking Eberle on his way to the net on a scoring chance.

12:57: Nugent-Hopkins gets sent off for hooking Tarasenko as he drove to the Oilers net, giving the Blues a four-on-three power play.

12:33: Stewart completes the hat trick, one-timing a feed across the slot to make it a 5-0 game. | STL 5, EDM 0

12:09: A Perron penalty puts the Oilers back in a four-on-three situation.

9:30: Oilers return to the power play, Nail Yakupov gets his first shift of the night in a five-on-four situation.

7:18: Berglund scores to extend the Blues lead to 6-0. | STL 6, EDM 0
