What\'s all the fuzz about?!
Oilers and EOCF growing funds and awareness for men\u2019s health

“With great moustache, comes great responsibility.” Movember, the month formerly known as November, is upon us to grow awareness and funds for men’s health. Approximately 1 in 6 males will develop invasive prostate cancer in their lifetime; it is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and the second highest cancer-related cause of death for men.

There’s mo’ time like the present and the Oilers have made some impressive mogress to help eradicate this health concern.

“I might want this moustache off my face in a couple of days but it’s all for a good cause so it’s worth it,” said Jordan Eberle, a Movember veteran. “A lot of the guys are doing it and we’re ready to help the cause.”

This year, 15 Oilers players are participating as Mo Bros to help change the face of men’s health. The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) will be supporting both Movember and Grovember, a local initiative that will power progress in leading-edge prostate cancer research right here in Alberta. Grovember supports the Alberta Cancer Foundation and the world-class research being done here in our province; every dollar raised will significantly impact our local community.

“Having the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation’s support will help us redefine the future of prostate cancer research here in Alberta,” said Nana Thaver, Development Officer, Alberta Cancer Foundation. “The Oilers players’ participation is helping to raise critical awareness for Grovember and prostate cancer alike.”

Since 2009, the Oilers organization has raised over $35,000 in support of Movember and Prostate Cancer Canada with funds used for the development of programs related to awareness, public education, advocacy and research.

“Raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer research locally here in Alberta is a top priority for the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation,” said Natalie Minckler, Executive Director, EOCF. “The Oilers rising to the Movember challenge will help Oil Country rally around Grovember and support prostate cancer research here at home.”

The Foundation gives back in excess of $1 million annually to charitable organizations registered with Revenue Canada whose programs support education and health and wellness for youth throughout Oil Country.
