PRE-GAME NOTES

The Edmonton Oilers play their 14th game of the regular season tonight and fifth on home ice.

FIRST PERIOD

Tonight's game is now underway.

18:52: Phil Kessel gets in behind the Oilers defence and takes a feed from Nazem Kadri. He dekes out Richard Bachman for the goal. | TOR 1, EDM 0 
18:34: Bachman makes a couple of nice stops shortly after the goal to keep the Oilers within one.
11:54: Shots on goal are 8-6 Oilers as the period approaches the midway point.

6:47: Ales Hemsky cuts in front of the Leafs net and tries to backhand the puck past Reimer but just narrowly misses the mark.

5:10: Yakupov crashes the Leafs net and afterwards is swatted by Reimer. A skirmish breaks out in front of the Leafs net. The end result was Yakupov getting sent off for goaltender interference. Jake Gardiner got two for roughing.

3:00: Sam Gagner gets a tripping penalty, giving Toronto the game's first power play.

0:00: After one period, shots on goal were 14-12 for Edmonton.

SECOND PERIOD

Second period is now underway. 18:45: Bachman makes a big stop early in the period.

18:19: Oilers just narrowly miss on their end of the ice and Toronto comes all the way back and scores. Kessel feeds van Riemsdyk who redirects it past Bachman to double the Leafs lead. | TOR 2, EDM 0
15:35: Kadri collides into the end boards and needs to be attended to by the Leafs trainer. He is able to skate to the bench on his own strength and does not head into the room.

11:18: Phil Kessel picks up the puck at the side of the net and rifles it past Bachman for his second of the game to increase Toronto's lead. | TOR 3, EDM 0
0:00: Shots on goal after 40 minutes were 24-21 for the Oilers.

THIRD PERIOD

20:00:
Third period is now underway.

15:07: Both teams trade chances, with the Leafs fanning on their best opportunity of the period to this point, van Riemsdyk trying to redirect a feed into the slot by Kessel. Shots are 28-21 Oilers (4-0 in the frame).

13:46: Morgan Rielly completes a three-way passing play and fires a shot from the left faceoff circle past Bachman for his first career NHL goal. | TOR 4, EDM 0
11:33: Cody Franson gets sent to the box for kneeing, giving the Oilers their first power play of the evening.

8:18: Colton Orr and Luke Gazdic exchange words but before they have a chance to drop their gloves, the referee assigns 10-minute misconducts to each.

4:13: With just over four minutes to play, Oilers had a 41-24 edge in shots in the game (17-3 in the period).
