PRE-GAME NOTES

The Edmonton Oilers have no changes to their forwards and defencemen from Saturday night. The only change for the team is in goal where Jason LaBarbera will start.

19:10: Oilers manage two shots on goal in the first shift ofthe game, including a nice tip by Taylor Hall in front off a Jeff Petry point shot.

13:46: Oilers control the play early with a 5-1 lead in shots just past the six-minute mark.

11:50: Off the rebound, Gazdic fans on a rolling puck with Caps starting goaltender Braden Holtby down and out. At the other end, Eric Fehr just misses on his attempt.

10:12: Justin Schultz intercepts the puck in the neutral zone before finding Boyd Gordon in the slot. The former Capital makes no mistake, rifling it in to put the Oilers on the board. | EDM 1, WSH 0
6:19: Brooks Laich has the puck alone down low after a quick turnover, spins and shoots it through the five hole of LaBarbera. | EDM 1, WSH 1
40.7: Jason Chimera cross-checked Justin Schultz from behind, sending the Oilers defenceman into the end boards. The former Oiler received two minutes for boarding, giving Edmonton the game's first man advantage.

FIRST PERIOD NOTES

Oilers were 54% in the faceoff circle, led by Arcobello (3-for-4), Acton (2-for-3) and Gordon (4-for-7). ... Ryan Nugent-Hopkins led all forwards for the Oilers at 6:39. Alex Ovechkin led all Caps forwards at 6:36.

SECOND PERIOD

Second period is now underway. Oilers start the period on the power play and Justin Schultz is back on the ice to start things off.
     Good news --> Justin Schultz back out for the 2nd period after getting boarded by Chimera late in the opening frame.                                                                                @EdmontonOilers
14:52: Penalty is killed off without a shot in goal. In fact, Over the first five minutes of the period, only two shots go to Washington.

13:25: Ales Hemsky loses his stick in his own zone and blocks a shot. He looks to be hurt as he steps gingerly onto the bench after his shift.

11:55: Holtby makes a couple of nice stops, denying Joensuu then Perron on the rebound. Perron then gets tangled up with Troy Brouwer and both get sent to the box for roughing.

9:54: Joel Ward took a feed from across the slot by Nicklas Backstrom and one-timed it past LaBarbera for the power play goal, giving Washingotn their first lead of the game. | WSH 2, EDM 1
8:45: Nugent-Hopkins rings a backhand off the crossbar.
     Immaculate passing play from Hemsky to Hall to RNH but Nuge's backhand ricochets off the crossbar. Caps still lead 2-1.                                                                                @EdmontonOilers
8:15: With just over eight minutes to play in the second period, shots on goal are 15-7 for Edmonton.

6:42: Ovechkin blasts a shot from the high slot past LaBarbera to increase Washington's lead to 3-1. | WSH 3, EDM 1
6:13: A high-sticking penalty to Arcobello gives Washington its second power play of the night.

5:59: 14 seconds later, Troy Brouwer converts a nice three-way passing play on a one-timer from the hashmarks to make it a three-goal game. | WSH 4, EDM 1
0.0: Second period comes to an end. Oilers hold a 17-11 edge in shots but trail 4-1 on the scoreboard.

THIRD PERIOD

Third period is now underway.

18:22: Jeff Petry goes off for hooking, sending Washington back on the power play.

11:23: Shots on goal near the midway point of the third period are 24-13 for Edmonton.

7:41: Mayhem erupts after a hit by Ovechkin leads to a lot of pushing and shoving on both sides with Washington's first line on the ice against Will Acton and Edmonton's fourth line. The result of everything is an Oilers man advantage.

2:44: Fehr has the puck all alone in front but his shot is kicked away by LaBarbera.

1:42: Perron, Petry and Acton team up for a nice three-way passing play that results in a tap-in for Acton's first career NHL goal.

0:00: Final shot count in the game was 30-20 for the Oilers.
