 OILERS ROOKIES vs. FLAMES ROOKIES

PLAYERS TO WATCH

FLAMES - SEAN MONAHAN
Position: Centre
Shot: Left
Age: 18
Height: 6-2
Weight: 187

Sean Monahan is the future of the Calgary Flames organization, or at least a major piece of it. The 18 year-old was drafted 6th overall by the Flames in 2013.

Monahan is touted as an intelligent and highly skilled centre prospect with all of the tools to make the Flames roster immediately. He was inked to his three-year-entry-level contract this summer.

Monahan has played each of the last three seasons with the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL. He’s scored 78 points in each of the last two seasons.

While his plus-minus dipped exponentially in year-three (from 25 in year two, to -18 in 2012-13), Monahan has elite offensive talent.

Monahan is one of the youngest players at development camp for Calgary this offseason but will make a push to make the roster. Keep an eye on number 23 for Calgary.

OILERS - OSCAR KLEFBOM
Position: Defence
Shot: Left
Age: 20
Height: 6-2
Weight: 187

Oscar Klefbom has waited a long time to return to the ice. The Oilers former 19th overall choice in 2011 injured his shoulder while playing for Farjestads in Sweden in October and has been chomping at the bit to return to game action ever since.

Klefbom is now cleared to play and will do so when he suits up against the Flames tonight. He is a big, physical defender that stands at 6-3 and weighs over 200 pounds.

The Edmonton Oilers have seen their prospect pool shift recently to bigger defencemen and Klefbom leads the charge. This will be the first North American game action for the blueliner and we will get a chance to see how his game transitions to the small ice.

Klefbom has played in 67 games for Farjestads in three seasons and has recorded 7 points (3-4-7). This is his first Young Stars Tournament.

There are three reasons that Oilers fans should be watching Klefbom in this game.

1.    Talent
2.    First game action since returning from injury
3.    Transitioning his game to the smaller North American ice
