NEWARK, NJ
- Chosen with the 56th overall pick, Marc-Olivier Roy couldn't wipe the smile off his face.

"I was very nervous this morning and during the draft. It was a long today, but I'm so happy now and very proud to be an Oiler," he said.

Spending the 2012-13 campaign with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL, Roy recorded 29 goals, 67 points and a +12 rating alongside linemates Christopher Clapperton and Cedric Paquette.

"This year we had great chemistry and that helped a lot," Roy said. "I worked out hard over the summer, took my off-season training more seriously and worked a lot on my strength."

Because of that, he nearly doubled his point totals from a year prior.

The hometown product describes himself as a complete player with good hockey sense.

"Growing up I mostly played centre, but in both seasons with the Armada I played wing. I'm much more comfortable on the wing because I'm able to use my speed."

Roy spoke with the Oilers at the Scouting Combine but didn't have any contact with them after that. Still, the selection truly was meant to be and he couldn't be any happier.

"My favourite player in the NHL is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins," Roy said. "I also like Taylor Hall, (Nail) Yakupov and all the kids. It's a young, energetic team with a lot of skill. I think they'll be very good.

"I'm proud to be part of this team and I hope to contribute in the future."
