EOCF completes legacy work at Inner City High School; steps away from home lottery

(Edmonton, AB) – The Board of Directors of the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) is discontinuing the Winner’s Choice Lottery now that the program has achieved its goals.

The EOCF Board introduced the lottery in 2009 to fund its legacy project - the redevelopment of Edmonton’s Inner City High School. The fundraiser generated more than $5.5 million for the purchase of a new facility. The EOCF has fulfilled its commitment to also fund programs and renovations, including a gym, recording studios and a commercial grade kitchen where a chef provides three meals a day.

“We are now funding the fourth and final phase of renovations, which has just started. While that completes our commitment to build and launch a new and improved Inner City High, we will continue to support this important work with money for ongoing operating costs,” said EOCF Board Chair Bruce Saville.

Inner City High provides high risk youth with a safe and inspiring setting in which they can achieve their diplomas. “With the help of the Foundation, teachers at Inner City High can build bonds of trust with students and provide them with the resources they need to succeed,” said Inner City High Principal Dr. Joe Cloutier.

Since relocating to the new facility, registration is at an all-time high, retention rates have increased 15% and there are a record number of graduates, including the first student to go on to post-secondary schooling.

The EOCF Board and Inner City High look forward to new achievements as their relationship continues to evolve.

The EOCF Board also thanks to the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission for its support and guidance over the years with the Winner’s Choice Lottery.
