Oilers acquire centre Jerred Smithson

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have acquired centre Jerred Smithson from the Florida Panthers, in exchange for a 4th round selection in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Smithson, 34, has spent the 2012-13 season with Panthers, registering 5 points (2G, 3A) and 10 penalty minutes in 35 games. Smithson’s 199 faceoff wins ranks him second on the Panthers and he holds a faceoff percentage of 54.8%.

The 6'3'', 209-pound centre has played for the Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators and Panthers over his 10-year NHL career, registering 95 points (38G, 57A) and 352 penalty minutes in 578 career games.
