Under the Scope: Oilers at Blues


Nikolai Khabibulin had a stellar night as he earned his first career shutout against the Blues, his first of the season and his 46th of his career. Khabibulin stopped all 43 shots he faced while Blues starting goaltender, Jake Allen was pulled after letting in three goals on seven shots. Jordan Eberle had his second multi-goal game of the season as he scored two of the Oilers' three goals. Edmonton would go on to win, 3-0.

A turnover in the neutral zone by David Perron led to an Oilers two-on-one rush. Taylor Hall made a pass to Jordan Eberle who was able to find the open net to put the Oilers up, 1-0.

In one end, Nikolai Khabibulin was able to make a save on David Perron's breakaway chance and in the other, the Oilers were able to move the puck up ice as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was able to set up Jordan Eberle for his second of the night.

Bouncing back from his loss against the Blues on Mar. 23, Khabibulin was able to make 43 saves, stopped two breakaway chances in the second to collect his first shutout since Nov. 3, 2011. It was Khabibulin's first shutout win against the Blues and his 46th of his career.


Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had two assists on the night, both coming on Eberle's goal and ended the night with a +3 rating. Nugent-Hopkins was able to register one shot on net, with one hit, and one block in the game.


The two teams played for 7:40 in the first period before the Oilers were able to register the first shot of the game.

The Oilers will fly back home on Wednesday and will begin preparing for their Thursday night game against the Columbus Jackets at Rexall Place. The Oilers will take on the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday and on Monday, it's the Battle of Alberta as the Calgary Flames make their first visit to Edmonton this season.
