Minute-by-minute updates from Edmonton's home contest versus Colorado
The Edmonton Oilers take on Northwest Division rivals the Colorado Avalanche for the first time this season. We'll be updating the action from the game as it happens. We'll also be adding photos, videos from big plays and more throughout the game.
The Oilers have made a few changes from Saturday night's lineup against Calgary. Teemu Hartikainen draws back into the lineup while Darcy Hordichuk draws out. Teemu will play on the fourth line with Magnus Paajarvi and Eric Belanger. Lennart Petrell bumps up to line three with Ryan Smyth and Shawn Horcoff.
Corey Potter also gets back into the lineup. Mark Fistric is the odd-man out.

20:00: Tonight's game is now underway.
18:29: Taylor Hall takes advantage of a fortunate bounce in the neutral zone. He carries the puck into the Avalanche end and dishes to Justin Schultz whose shot is stopped by Varlamov.
17:21: A good shift by the fourth line draws a penalty. Greg Zanon goes to the box for holding.
14:32: Colorado kills off their penalty and not long after Jeff Petry gets tagged for interference to put the Avalanche up a man.
8:00: Oilers outshooting Colorado 5-2 through the first 12 minutes of the game.
6:36: Colorado's Jamie McGinn takes the team's second penalty of the game, a holding minor to put the Oilers back on the power play.
4:37: With one second left in the penalty, Sam Gagner takes a shot on net from the left point. Hartikainen whacks at the rebound several times before Hemsky swoops in and jams it past Varlamov. | EDM 1, COL 0
3:44: Matt Duchene takes an interference penalty and the Oilers go back on the power play.
1:55: Jordan Eberle connects late on the power play to make it 2-0 with a quick wrist shot from the left faceoff circle past Varlamov. | EDM 2, COL 0
0:07: Sam Gagner takes a tripping penalty. The Avalanche power play will carry over to the second period.
0:00: Shots on goal after one period favoured Edmonton heavily, 14 to 3 over Colorado.
The Hemsky goal in the first period marked the first time the Oilers held a lead all season.
The Oilers have scored a power play goal in each of their first five games this season. In fact, they now have two in three of the five games.
20:00: The second period is now underway.
11:43: With the power play to start the period, Colorado used that to spark their offence and outshot Edmonton 6-1 through the first eight minutes of the middle frame.
11:34: Oilers drive the net and force Colorado to take another holding penalty. Ryan O'Byrne gets sent off this time.
10:20: Edmonton connects for their third power play goal of the game. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins fed a nice pass to Taylor Hall in the slot and his redirection goes off Horcoff in front and in. | EDM 3, COL 0

5:25: Oilers kill that one off then Zanon gets his second minor of the night -- hooking -- to put the Oilers dangerous power play back on the ice.
0:00: Period two comes to an end. Oilers still outshooting Avalanche, but the visitors have narrowed the gap. 21 to 14 Edmonton.
With his goal, Shawn Horcoff moves into eighth all-time among Oilers point-getters with 437. That moves him past Esa Tikkanen.
Justin Schultz led all Oilers after two periods with 13:02 of icetime. Sam Gagner was second at 13:00.

15:17: Jordan Eberle spins and rings a shot right off the post, nearly extended the Oilers lead.
12:17: After McGinn backhands it on net from the corner, P.A. Parenteau sneaks in from behind the net and jams the rebound past Dubnyk to put the Avalanche on the board. | EDM 3, COL 1

7:20: Oilers try and gain back the momentum with several great scoring chances on the heels of Colorado's goal. Shots are now 30 to 24 for the Avalanche.
