Minute-by-minute updates from Edmonton's home contest versus L.A.
The Edmonton Oilers wrap up their short two-game homestand tonight against the defending Stanley Cup Champion L.A. Kings. We'll be updating the action from the game as it happens. We'll also be adding photos, videos from big plays and more throughout the game.
The Oilers have made a few adjustments to their lineup. Magnus Paajarvi moves up to the third line, replacing Teemu Hartikainen who moves to the fourth line and to the left side. Mark Fistric also makes his Oilers debut, paired up with Ryan Whitney.

20:00: Tonight's game is now underway.
16:13: On the tail end of a scoring chance off the rush, Shawn Horcoff bowled into Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick. During the same sequence of events, Ladislav Smid tapped Dustin Brown from behind which caused the 6'1" 200 lb forward to come crashing to the ice. The result was two penalties to the Oilers and a two-man advantage for the Kings.
14:20: With time winding down in the penalty, Anze Kopitar fired a shot from the top of the right circle that rang off the post behind Dubnyk for the Kings' best chance of the five-on-three. Earlier in the power play, Jeff Carter rang a shot off the crossbar.
12:51: Ladislav Smid moves the puck with his hand and gets a delay-of-game penalty -- a new rule in the NHL this season.
10:06: Shortly after coming out of the box, Smid dropped the gloves with Jordan Nolan in a spirited bout that had both combatants swinging wildly. The fight charged up the Rexall Place crowd and also sent Smid back to the box for the third time in the first 10 minutes of the period. Smid got two minutes for instigating and two for instigating with a visor as well as a ten-minute misconduct to put the Kings back on the power play -- this time for four minutes.
5:53: Just as the four minutes expired, Dwight King received a double minor for high sticking to give Edmonton a chance at the power play.
4:12: Yakupov puts the puck in during a mad goalmouth scramble but the whistle had already gone. Quick comes out and has a few words with the Oilers rookie.
3:41: Horcoff is cross-checked by Mike Richards, giving the Oilers a two-man advantage for the next 1:48.
0:21: Mark Fistric pastes Nolan into the boards which results in a rousing ovation from the crowd.
0:00: Scoreless but action-packed first period has Oilers outshooting Los Angeles 14 to 8.
The Kings were 0-for-5 on the power play and moved to 0-for-16 on the season overall with the man advantage.
20:00: The second period is now underway.
17:46: Justin Williams takes a holding penalty deep in the Oilers zone, giving the Oilers another power play opportunity.
16:06: With 20 seconds left in the Williams minor, the Kings take a bench minor for too many men on the ice to extend the Edmonton power play and give the Oilers 20 seconds of five-on-three time.
16:06: Oilers use their 30-second time out.
16:06: The Oilers had two players waived out of the faceoff circle and received a penalty for face-off violation. Yet another rare call.
13:46: Yakupov makes a nice deke on a two-on-one but is absolutely robbed by Jonathan Quick who gets his glove out to nab the puck.
13:27: Slava Voynov goes off for interference setting up yet another power play for Edmonton.
7:41: Colin Fraser gets the puck alone in the slot on a pass off the side boards from Nolan. His one-timer attempt is stopped by Dubnyk.
6:34: Off the faceoff, the Kings break up ice and Kyle Clifford spots Carter streaking down the middle of the ice with a nice dish at the blueline. Carter makes no mistake, backhanding it past Dubnyk to give the Kings the lead. | LA 1, EDM 0
6:18: Smyth gets sent off for tripping.
5:27: Fistric puts a stick on Dustin Brown and once again the Kings captain goes flailing to the ice like he was shot. Two-man advantage for the Kings.

After two periods, Justin Schultz led all Oilers with 16:53 of icetime. Drew Doughty had a whopping 21:38 for the Kings.
Mark Fistric was leading all Oilers with four hits on the game. Jeff Petry was second with three.
20:00: The third period is now underway.
18:24: Trevor Lewis gets two minutes for high sticking to give Edmonton its sixth power play of the game.
12:54: Lewis takes another penalty, this time for boarding.

8:50: Oilers were unsuccessful on their two man advantages in the period. Shots on goal were 29 to 27 in favour of the home side to this point in the game.
7:37: Gagner takes a slashing penalty with just over seven-and-a-half minutes to go in the third.
2:50: Oilers get their 8th power play as Jeff Carter heads to the penalty box for tripping.
1:05: Nugent-Hopkins scores on the power play to tie the game at 1 - 1
