"We're really excited to add another great hockey mind to our coaching ranks." said Green. "Sean's vast experience in both Major Junior hockey and the National Hockey League will be a huge asset to our staff and Sean will hopefully be able to pass some of that along to our players."
"The City of Edmonton means a lot to me." stated Brown. "I was drafted in the 1995 Entry Draft held in Edmonton after my 3 years in the Canadian Hockey League. I'll always cherish my time with the Oilers and have basically called Edmonton home ever since. I feel I have something to offer the players and am looking forward to learning the coaching trade from two of the best in the Western Hockey league with Derek (Laxdal) and Steve (Hamilton)."
Brown, a native of Oshawa, Ontario has called Sherwood Park home since his playing days wrapped up. The former first-round draft pick (21st Overall) of the Boston Bruins played 436 career NHL games including 6 seasons he split between the Edmonton Oilers and their top American Hockey League affiliate at the time, the Hamilton Bulldogs. Brown's other NHL stops included Boston, New Jersey and Vancouver. The Ontario Hockey League graduate also played 2 seasons in Germany and 3 seasons in Austria before wrapping up his professional career in 2010-11.
"Sean Brown should make an immediate impact with our hockey club and he'll be a tremendous asset." said Oil Kings Head Coach Derek Laxdal. "He'll be our eye in the sky during games and will have a chance to work with our players at practice and during video sessions. He'll assist off the ice as well when it comes to fitness and conditioning which will be a huge help."
