EOCF and Northlands continue to support Edmonton’s Food Bank
The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) and Northlands are celebrating the Rock and Wrap It Up program’s second season supporting Edmonton’s Food Bank.
On April 20, 2012 the latest pickup amounted to 271 kilograms, providing 460 meals for those in need. This year, the Edmonton Oil Kings tremendous playoff run has helped increase the season total and, as more games are played, donations will continue to grow in support of Edmonton’s Food Bank.
For the past two years, the National Hockey League and all 30 of its member teams have partnered with Rock and Wrap It Up to assist in fighting hunger across North America. The program donates prepared but, unserved concession food from both Oilers and Oil Kings games, plus other Rexall events. For its effort, the NHL was recognized with Beyond Sport’s 2011 “Sport for the Environment” award.
“The Rock and Wrap It Up program is a great initiative for giving back,” said Natalie Minckler, Executive Director, EOCF. “Edmonton’s Food Bank is an important resource in this community used by many organizations the EOCF supports.”
Since September 2011, the EOCF has donated 1,758 kilograms of food providing 2,981 meals to Edmonton’s Food Bank.
“We’re thrilled with the level of support Edmonton’s Food Bank receives from the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation,” said Marjorie Bencz, Executive Director, Edmonton’s Food Bank. “Our community is strengthened with this support. We are helping to alleviate hunger together.”
Building on the success from the past two seasons, the EOCF and Northlands look forward to continuing their food donations through Rock and Wrap It Up next year.
