The Edmonton Oilers recognized as a 2012 Great Place to Work®
The Oilers were the first NHL team given this workplace distinction and are proud to repeat the recognition
Working in the NHL is a dream for many, but the Oilers aim to take it one step further to create a work environment that nurtures and supports employees. Through unique programs that range from a year-round wellness challenge to the loyalty awards, the Oilers go above and beyond to acknowledge their employees’ contributions.
“No day is ever the same when working with the Oilers. From training camp to playoffs, it never slows down. So, we must rely on a talented, dynamic and committed group of professionals to put their best foot forward each day as they seek to delight and amaze our fans in Oil Country,” said Patrick LaForge, President and Chief Operations Officer, Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club. “Most importantly, it is the survey feedback from our employees that puts us on the Great Place to Work list for a third time in four years. That says it all for me.”
“Attracting and retaining the best people isn’t easy in a business that works at fever pace 365 days each year. To be successful we try very hard to keep our people and their families happy and engaged in our culture,” said Tandy Kustiak, Director of Human Resources, Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club. “From our receptionists (whom we call VP of 1st Impressions) to our North American and European Scouts who work remotely, we have to be a Great Place to Work.”
This list of “Best Workplaces in Canada” is compiled by Great Place to Work® Institute Canada. The competition process is based on two criteria: two-thirds of the total score comes from a 58-statement survey completed by a random selection of employees, along with their open-ended comments about their organization; the remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization’s culture, including an evaluation of HR policies and procedures. This offers a rigorous representation of the organization from an employee perspective, and an overall portrait of the workplace culture. Together, they provide crucial data relative to the five trust-building dimensions of a great place to work®: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.
This year’s list received over 230 nominations and over 49,000 employees participated in the 2012 “Best Workplaces in Canada” survey.
