Future Watch: Tremblay at good fit in OKC

Hunter Tremblay was signed as a free agent by the Edmonton Oilers on March 31, 2011. Since that time, the 25-year-old forward has spent his time toiling with the Oklahoma City Barons in the American Hockey League.

He joined the Barons prior to the end of the 2010-11 regular season and was an integral part of their playoff push last season and is proving to be an asset this season as well.

Before joining the Barons, Tremblay played four seasons with the University of New Brunswick, scoring 77 goals and adding 124 assists in 108 games.  Prior to his collegiate career, Tremblay spent five seasons with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, scoring 155 goals in that time.

This season, Tremblay has proven himself a valuable part of the Barons' special teams as one of their top penalty killers.  He has scored three shorthanded goals this season placing him in a tie for second in the league in that category.

"I play most of my time on the penalty kill," Tremblay said. "So if I'm going to score it's going to be on the PK. That's just how it's worked out this season.”

Tremblay's journey to the American Hockey League and the Oilers' organization began at a young age and was helped along by a competitive sibling rivalry.

"I started when I was about three years old and I had an older brother, Forest, who was three years older who played hockey as well. I was just always trying to be as good as him. I think that helped me become a better player.”

Reflecting on his first stint in the professional ranks, Tremblay has enjoyed the time spent in the AHL beginning last season, in which he played three regular season games and five playoff games, leading up to this season.

"It's been good so far. I'm glad I came last year to kind of check it out and see what it's all about and I really enjoyed the playoff run even though it was cut short. This year has been really good. We've been winning hockey games and anytime you're winning it makes things a lot (more fun). “

As for his surroundings, the forward could not be happier with Oklahoma City.

"It's been awesome. We just live ten minutes out. I've spent a lot of time here in Bricktown and me and my fiancé, Jessica, love it here."
