Oilers Hockey School Returns
The Edmonton Oilers Hockey School presented by Cenovus Energy is back
The highly anticipated Edmonton Oilers Hockey School presented by Cenovus Energy is back and ready to fill its summer roster. Running in July and August, Oilers Hockey School provides grassroots players between the ages of five and 14 with the opportunity to develop their skills and character under the guidance of top quality hockey instructors.
“It’s such an exciting week,” said a past hockey school participant. “The variety of training is incredible and I always leave feeling like my skating and overall hockey play has improved.”
While there is no shortage of hockey camps here in the heart of Oil Country, Oilers Hockey School stands out in the minds of students, parents and even the coaching staff. Starting July 22, 2012, this year’s camp will offer three week-long sessions at Servus Place in St. Albert along with a fourth week beginning August 12, 2012 held at Suncor Community Leisure Centre in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
“I am proud to say The Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club is a huge supporter of development programs for young hockey players that build their skills and character for the road ahead, both on and off the ice,” said Patrick LaForge, Edmonton Oilers President and COO. “We’re pleased to once again partner with the Okanagan Hockey School to provide this annual opportunity for children in Oil Country.”
Participants can sign up for five different programs that include Learn to Play, Regular Skaters, Elite Skaters, Goaltending, and Battle and Compete. Each program focuses on specific elements of the game while placing emphasis on individual skill development.
From the moment participants put on their new Oilers jersey to the day they receive a special visit from their favourite players, Oilers Hockey School is one camp that won’t soon be forgotten.
“The whole experience, it’s life changing for [my son]. The confidence he gets out of here, the skills, everything is just top notch,” said Paul Schroeder, father of a past participant. Over the four weeks, roughly 500 young players will hit the ice, gyms and classrooms to participate in drills, scrimages, and off-ice sessions.
