THE WEEK THAT WAS

This past week definitely wasen't what the Oilers were hoping for. Losses to Phoenix, San Jose and Detroit have dropped the Oilers to 14-16-3 on the season and have them mired in a four-game losing skid overall.

The once division-leading Oilers have now fallen to last place in the Northwest division and are looking for answers on how to swing the momentum back the other way. With the team mostly healthy there is still a sense that thing can be turned around. With a tightly contested NHL right now, that just may be possible.

One positive that can be taken out of the past week is that the team played well overall and were right there in a couple of the games. Against San Jose and Detroit, the Oilers hung in there right till the end and might have deserved a better fate.



THE WEEK AHEAD

The coming week will see the Oilers play their final game before the Christmas break. They will welcome the Minnesota Wild to town, a team the Oilers have already seen quite a bit this season. It will be the fifth meeting between the clubs with the Wild having won three of four, all the wins coming via shootout.

Following the Christmas break the team will head out on a seven-game road trip starting Boxing Day in Vancouver. The teams have split the season series so far with the Oilers having won the last meeting 3-2 at Rexall Place on October 25th.

THURSDAY NIGHT

No more than one hour following the completion of Thursday's game vs. Minnesota, the newly introduced salaries for all our highlighted players will take effect. At this time all remaining players salaries will be reset to their real cap hit values.  

Here are this week’s salary amendments:

TAYLOR HALL ($4M > $5M)

Hall returned from injury this past week and looked as if he hadn't missed a beat. The young forward was one of the Oilers best players over the past three games and it showed on the scoresheet.

Hall returned with a bang by scoring the team's only two goals against the Coyotes. He would end up with four points(2G, 2A) in the three games. Hall now has 22 points in 25 games this season and continues to inch closer a ppg pace.

With Hall back and playing well we could see more of the kid line that has been a brightspot for the Oilers this year. Hall's fantasy value is high despite the top price tag.
  
JORDAN EBERLE ($1M > $3M)

Eberle continues to be as consistent a producer as the Oilers have. Jordan brings a compete level to the rink each night and when you add that to his slick hands, the results are golden.

Eberle currently sits tied for the team lead in points with 34 in 33 games. In this most recent stretch of games he was able to notch three points(2G, 1A) in the three games to keep him at a ppg pace this season. 

Eberle at 1 million is easily the biggest steal in this league. Even with the bump to 3 million, he still might be the biggest steal. 
 

RYAN WHITNEY ($4M > $2M)

Ryan Whitney has lost his confidence and it is showing more and more every game. Whitney a proven offensive defenceman has struggled greatly since returning from injury this season.

Many people around the team and the league figured that it would just be a matter of time before he found is game again. Well that has yet to happen. Whitney has just two assists in 16 games and is a minus-six.

All this being said, Whitney carrying a price tag of 4 million is just not worth buying. Even at 2 million I would like to see some glimmer of life from Whitney before adding him to a fantasy roster.

INJURY UPDATE

Cam Barker: 3 months with an ankle injury.
