The Capital Ex grounds came alive this morning as hundreds of kids and their families enjoyed VIP access at the 34th annual Monday Morning Magic.
The special event, which provides a safe environment for children with disabilities to experience Capital EX, is highly anticipated by both the attendees and volunteers year after year.
This year, members of the Edmonton Oil Kings, Edmonton Capitals, Oilers Octane and Edmonton Oilers NHL and WHA alumni, Norm Lacombe and Ron Walters joined in on the fun as the kids enjoyed a morning filled with sunshine, smiles and rides.
Edmonton Oilers prospect and Oil Kings veteran Travis Ewanyk was lucky enough to have fair-goer Ryan Hauck take him for a spin in a bumper car.
"It’s really good to be out here with the kids," said Ewanyk. "Ryan and I just had a little competition with T.J. (Foster) on the bumper cars."
Ryan smiled from ear to ear as he stepped out of the driver’s seat, "I was driving good, it was awesome!"
Members of the Oilers Octane greeted families as they entered the gates while the players circulated the grounds signing autographs, snapping pictures and accompanying young fans on the rides.
For Oilers Alumnus and first time Monday Morning Magic volunteer, Norm Lacombe the event was a chance for his whole family to get involved and give back to the community.
"This event is wonderful, I’ve never had the chance to come before and I’ve always wanted to," Norm added. "It’s a great day for these families– I even brought some of my own kids along to help out!"
When the morning drew to an end, the players and volunteers left the Capital Ex grounds knowing they had participated in another very successful and memorable Monday Morning Magic.
