The 2011 IIHF World Championship continued Monday with four match-ups, including a contest between Magnus Paajarvi's Team Sweden and underdog Austria.

SWEDEN VS AUSTRIA

The Austrians were aggressive early in the game. They tested Swedish goaltender Viktor Fasth 11 times in the first period, while the 'Tre Kronor' managed nine shots on Fabian Weinhandl at the other end of the ice.

Despite Austria's shot advantage, the lone successful first-period attempt belonged to Sweden. With only 21 seconds left on the clock, Loui Eriksson surged in and slipped the puck over to Niklas Persson, who fooled a sliding Weinhandl to set the score 1-0.

5:39 into the middle frame, Persson earned a second goal by deflecting the puck off an Austrian defender and just inside Weinhandl's right post.

The goal gave Sweden some much-needed momentum, and they out-shot Austria 13-6 in the second period as a result.

Trailing 2-0 after 40 minutes, the Austrians needed goals but found only penalties. An early hooking minor to Manuel Latusa helped Sweden settle in to the offensive zone, and with 22 seconds left in the power-play, Paajarvi banged the puck across the line. The goal gave Sweden a 3-0 lead and the young Oilers forward his first goal of the 2011 tournament.

Three more penalties prevented Austria from crafting any considerable counter-attack, and Sweden emerged with a 3-0 win in their second game of the Championships.

The next Oilers to take to the ice in Slovakia are Devan Dubnyk and Jordan Eberle, who will join Team Canada in its battle vs Switzerland Tuesday, May 3. At last year's tournament, the Swiss surprised the hockey world by defeating Canada 4-1 in the preliminary round. You can watch Canada's attempt to exact revenge live on TSN at 8:15am MT.

As for Paajarvi, he will take Tuesday off and return to action with Team Sweden Wednesday, May 4 vs USA. That game will also be broadcast live on TSN, starting at 12:15pm MT.
