Oilers named as a 2011 Great Place to Work

Oilers were 1st NHL team given distinction in 2009 & have repeated this year

The Globe and Mail announced today the Edmonton Oilers have been chosen as a 2011 Great Place to Work®. The Edmonton Oilers were the first NHL team given this distinction in 2009 and have repeated the recognition again this year. The Great Places to Work® list and related stories appears in a special national report in today’s Globe and Mail.

We believe to be successful the Oilers need to attract and retain the best and brightest minds in our industry and one of the smartest ways for us to do that is to have a work culture that motivates our people” said Patrick LaForge, President of the Edmonton Oilers and COO of RSC. “Virtually everything we undertake at the Edmonton Oilers requires passionate people to do brilliant things under short deadlines. We are convinced that having the right work culture for our people is key to optimizing business performance while enhancing the loyalty of our customers. In fact the sustainability of the Oilers depends on them”

“This recognition is testament of how our employees feel about their workplace and culture, which we firmly believe has been cultivated by our employees’ exceptional talents, drive and passion,” said Tandy Kustiak, Director of Human Resources for the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club. “We’re honoured by this recognition, but we certainly don’t intend to sit back and rest, instead we will continue to work on programs to push us to the next level.”

This list of “Best Workplaces in Canada” is compiled by Great Place to Work® Institute Canada.  The competition process is based on two criteria: two-thirds of the total score comes from a 58-statement survey completed by a random selection of employees, along with their open-ended comments about their organization; the remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization’s culture, including an evaluation of HR policies and procedures. This offers a rigorous representation of the organization from an employee perspective, and an overall portrait of the workplace culture. Together, they provide crucial data relative to the five trust-building dimensions of a great place to work®: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.

This year’s list received over 230 nominations and approximately 44,000 employees (actual number is 43,497) participated in the 2011 “Best Workplaces in Canada” survey.
