PLAYOFF SCENARIOS
The Oklahoma City Barons 2-0 win April 9 over the Texas Stars clinched a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Although the Barons have clinched a spot in the Calder Cup Playoffs, the seeding for the postseason won’t be determined until the conclusion of play April 10. The Barons can finish as high as #3 seed in the West Division or as low as the #5 seed. Where they finish will determine when and where their playoff series will start.
Barons will earn the #3 seed in the West Division with:
A regulation/overtime win over the Houston Aeros AND
Any Texas Stars loss (regulation/overtime/shootout) against San Antonio
OR
A shootout win over the Houston Aeros AND
A Texas Stars regulation loss to San Antonio
#3 Seed will play the Houston Aeros in the First Round
Barons will earn the #4 seed in the West Division with:
A shootout win over the Houston Aeros
combined with any points earned by the Texas Stars against the San Antonio Rampage
#4 Seed will play the Milwaukee Admirals in the First Round
Barons will earn the #5 seed in the West Division
(earning the crossover position to the #4 seed in the North) with:
Any loss (regulation/overtime/shootout) to the Houston Aeros
The #5 seed (earning crossover into North Division) will play the Hamilton Bulldogs in the first round.
Should teams finish with the same number of points, the first tiebreaker to determine the team that advances is regulation or overtime wins during the regular season. The second tiebreaker is the number of points earned against the team(s) a team is tied with.
The top four teams in the Western Division will qualify for the postseason. An exception would occur if the fifth place team in the West Division has more points than the fourth place team in the North Division. If that occurs, the fifth place team from the West Division would take the place of the fourth place team in the North Division. IF the playoff started today, that exception would occur, with the Barons taking the fourth place spot in the North Division.
They close out the regular season and determine their playoff seeding tomorrow in Houston at 4:05 p.m.
