Oilers fans attending the St. Patrick’s Day game versus the Phoenix Coyotes on March 17 were given the opportunity to test the luck of the Irish with the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation and the Oilers Ladies annual Puck Surprise fundraiser presented by Stantec.

This year, Stantec came onboard to support the fundraiser which benefits the Rainbow Society of Alberta, the Make a Wish Foundation of Northern Alberta and the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation. To kick start the fundraising, Stantec stepped up with an extremely generous $10,000 donation to encourage fans to participate.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for Stantec to partner with the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation and to support these exceptional charities,” said Keith Shillington, Vice President at Stantec. “It’s a chance for us to give back to the community where we work and live.”

Sold for $20 each, every signature green puck was individually wrapped and signed by one of the Oilers, leaving an element of mystery to excited purchasers. Twenty-three lucky Oilers fans who unwrapped pucks signed in gold ink also took home an Oilers team-signed hockey stick.

“Puck Surprise is not only a great way for Oilers fans to purchase a unique souvenir and have fun testing their luck, but it’s also a great way to help give back to some very special young children in Oil Country that really need it,” said EOCF Executive Director Natalie Minckler. “We’re overwhelmed by the generosity of our fans and by Stantec’s generous donation to kick off this event which will ensure we’re able to make a meaningful donation to these local organizations.”

All 2,500 signature green pucks were sold out by the end of evening. The Puck Surprise Charity Online Auction featuring 80 Oilers items will be open until March 22.
ABOUT THE FOUNDATION
Established in 2001, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) continues the Oilers legacy of giving back by contributing its unique resources and financial support to charitable organizations that serve the communities of Northern Alberta.  Led by a dedicated community Board of Directors, the EOCF has developed a number of programs and partnerships that target those who need it most.

The EOCF raises its funds through a variety of fundraising initiatives that take place during Oilers home games and the generous contributions of Oilers fans and friends.

The Foundation gives back in excess of $1 million annually to charitable organizations registered with Revenue Canada whose programs support education and health and wellness for youth throughout Oil Country.
