GOLD MEDAL GAME - RUSSIA 5, CANADA 3
An impressive third-period comeback from a three-goal deficit by Russia gave them the Gold Medal victory, ultimately defeating Canada 5-3 on Wednesday night.
The Canadians got off to a fast start and didn't look back through a fast-paced 20 minute opening period.
Canada scored early and late in the period to take a 2-0 lead over Russia heading into the first intermission.
Shots on goal were 14 to 8 in favour of Canada.
Canada continued its onslaught in the second period as Brayden Schenn scored his 8th of the tournament to make it a 3-0 game.
However, the Russians struck for two quick goals early in the third to make it a one-goal game.
Six minutes later, Vladimir Tarasenko scored to bring the Russians all the way back, tied 3-3.
Russia struck for the go-ahead marker with 4:38 to play and then iced it with less than two minutes to play for the Gold Medal.
We will have complete coverage of the game, including post-game interviews with the Oilers prospects and highlights.
BRONZE MEDAL GAME - USA 4, SWEDEN 2
The Bronze Medal Game was Sweden versus USA but you wouldn't know it by the number of red and white jerseys in the crowd.
Oilers prospect and Swedish captain Anton Lander led his squad onto the ice with an opportunity to secure the 15th medal in World Junior history for the country.
USA dominated play early on with four or five outstanding scoring chances. Goaltender Fredrik Petersson Wentzel was outstanding in keeping it scoreless through 20 minutes.
Shots on goal after one were 13 to 5 for the Americans.
With 8:02 left in the second period, Sweden struck for a goal to take a 1-0 lead. Oscar Lindberg banged home a rebound through a sprawled-out Jack Campbell on a second effort for the marker.
However, USA's Chris Kreider tied it up before the period would end and send the two teams to the intermission knotted up at 1-1.
After two, shots on goal were 24 to 18 for USA (13 to 11 for Sweden in the period).
52 seconds into the third period, USA struck again to take their first lead of the game, 2-1. The Americans extended their lead to 3-1 before Sweden made things interesting, cutting the USA lead to 3-2 with five minutes to play.
However, Kreider's second of the game iced the outcome and Sweden fell 4-2.
Lander finished with one shot on goal and an even rating in the game.
