Five Oilers prospects are taking part in the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo, New York. We are providing daily reports and starting Friday we will be on location to provide video, written features and more through to the end of the tournament.

Big Slovakian defenceman Martin Marincin was the only Oilers prospect playing on Monday. Marincin's Slovakian club needed overtime to defeat Germany 2-1.

Marincin had four shots on goal to rank third on the team in that category - and first among defencemen. He also added two penalty minutes and a +1 rating.

On Sunday, the other four prospects played on the tournament's first day with three coming away with a victory and playing big parts in their respective wins.

Slovakia has a huge test on Tuesday when they face the heavily-favoured United States squad. Canada, along with Oilers prospects Curtis Hamilton and Olivier Roy, face the Czech Republic.

Sweden and captain Anton Lander take on Russia while Finland faces Switzerland. Toni Rajala and the Finns will have to be ready early as the game goes at 10:30 a.m. Edmonton time.
