Oilers World Juniors Report: 1st Edition

Five Oilers prospects will be representing their countries in the annual tourney

Five Oilers prospects will be taking part in the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo, New York. Starting December 26 will we provide daily reports and starting Friday we will be on location to provide video, written features and more through to the end of the tournament.

The Oilers prospects suiting up are forward Curtis Hamilton and goaltender Olivier Roy for Canada, Anton Lander for Sweden, Martin Marincin for Slovakia and Toni Rajala for Finland.

This is the first World Juniors for both Canadian participants. Hamilton has 15 goals and 42 points in 31 games played so far this season with the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL. Roy has a 2.95 goals-against average and .905 save percentage along with a 12-9-0 record with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan (QMJHL).

Marincin has been a force this season for Prince George (WHL). He leads all WHL blueliners with 10 goals and 35 points in 33 games. It is his second World Juniors tourney. He picked up one assist in six games last season in Saskatoon.

Toni Rajala is playing his third World Juniors. He had five points two years ago in Ottawa and three points last year. After suiting up in Brandon last season, he is back in Finland this year. He has six goals and 12 points in 22 games for Ilves Tampere of the top Finnish league.

Centre Anton Lander returns for a second tour of duty as Team Sweden captain and third tournament overall. He had nine points in six games last season and a +4 rating. Lander picked up a pair of assists the year before as a 17 year old. Lander is also captain of his Swedish Elite League team in Timra where he has seven goals and 14 points through 30 games.
