Taylor Hall named NHL\'s Third Star of the Week
Edmonton Oilers left-winger Taylor Hall has been named the NHL's Third Star for the week ending December 5th. Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby was named First Star, while Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller claimed Second Star honours.

FIRST STAR -- SIDNEY CROSBY, C, PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

        Crosby led all players in goals and points last week with five goals and one assist in three games, extending his point streak to 15 games and helping the Penguins (18-8-2) push their winning streak to a League-high nine contests. The NHL's First Star for November tallied one assist in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers Nov. 29, tallied his second hat trick in the past four games in a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers Dec. 2 and notched a pair of goals in a 7-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets Dec. 4. Crosby's scoring binge, highlighted by 31 points (17 goals, 14 assists) over the course of his current 15-game point streak, has lifted him to first place in the race for the Art Ross Trophy as NHL points leader (23-23--46) and to top spot for the Maurice Richard Trophy as the League's leading goal scorer (23).

SECOND STAR -- RYAN MILLER, G, BUFFALO SABRES

        Miller stopped all 51 shots he faced in posting back-to-back shutouts as the Sabres improved to 11-13-3 overall. Miller turned aside 19 shots in a 5-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Dec. 3 and notched the 19th shutout of his NHL career with a 32-save performance in a 1-0 shootout victory over the Ottawa Senators Dec. 4. The 2009-10 Vezina Trophy winner and 2010 Olympic tournament MVP extended his active shutout streak to 148:14 and improved to his season record to 9-7-2 with a 2.26 goals-against average and .922 save percentage in 18 appearances.

THIRD STAR -- TAYLOR HALL, LW, EDMONTON OILERS

        Hall notched four goals in as many games last week, sparking the Oilers (10-12-4) to a three-game road sweep of Eastern Canada and a season-long four-game winning streak. Hall tallied one goal in a 4-1 victory at Ottawa Nov. 29, recorded three shots on goal in a 4-3 overtime victory at Montreal Dec. 1, notched two goals and a +3 rating in a 5-0 win at Toronto Dec. 2 and scored the first overtime goal of his NHL career in a 2-1 home decision over the St. Louis Blues Dec. 4. The first overall selection in the 2010 Entry Draft increased his season points total to 15 (nine goals, six assists) in 26 games, ranking second and fifth among rookies in goals and points, respectively. The 19-year-old left wing has tallied six goals, including two game-winners, and a +7 rating in his past eight games.
