The Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Oil Kings organizations were saddened this weekend to learn of the passing of Len Lunde. Len, a forward, enjoyed a rich and varied career in hockey including being a proud member of the Edmonton Oil Kings for two years (1954- 1956) and an Edmonton Oiler of the WHA (1973-1974). Born in Campbell River, Alberta Len also played for the Edmonton Flyers professional hockey team in the mid 50’s and then cracked the lineup with the Detroit Red Wings in the six team NHL where he played four seasons before returning to the Edmonton Flyers for the 1961-62 season. He returned to the NHL for two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks (1962-63 and 1965-1966).
Len then made several stop in North America with several teams before returning to the NHL with the 1970-71 Vancouver Canucks, then to Tampere Finland for a year before his WHA time with the Edmonton Oilers.
