Whitney & Penner Connect

Ryan Whitney continues to be the architect of beautiful passing plays, and this instance was no different.

Following a pin-point pass from Ales Hemsky to get the play started, Whitney collected the puck at the point and began looking for options. He found a lane in the middle of the ice and Dustin Penner sneaking in the back door. Whitney sent a beautiful pass through the slot to an open Penner who tapped the puck past Ilya Bryzgalov for the goal.

Hall Goes Shelf on Hiller

It was a three-on-two for the Oilers entering the Ducks zone. With the puck on Taylor Hall's stick, you knew something special was going to happen.

Hall brought the puck down the left-wing and challenged Ducks defenceman Cam Fowler in the process. As Hall approached the middle of the circle, he pulled a slight toe-drag to change his shooting angle and to use his former Spitfires teammate as a screen. It worked to perfection as Hall's shot lit the lamp after denting the twine in the top corner behind Jonas Hiller.

Hemsky Scores the Game-Winner

It was yet another example of the Oilers, and Ales Hemsky in particular, driving the puck with speed and cutting to the net when the opportunity came.

After receiving a pass from Dustin Penner just outside the offensive blueline, Hemsky took the puck wide and began using his speed to make a hard cut to the net. He eventually found himself in tight against Jonas Hiller, but still managed to get a quick shot away. Much like Hall's goal, Hemsky's aim beat the dejected Ducks goaltender top-shelf, glove-side.
