OMARK NAMED REEBOK / AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Oklahoma City – Oklahoma City Barons forward Linus Omark was named the Reebok American Hockey League Player of the Week for the week ending November 7, the league’s front office announced today.
Omark, a 5-10, 170-pounder from Overtornea, Sweden scored six goals in three games last week. He began his week Friday by scoring the game-winning goal in the Barons’ 6-1 win over the Texas Stars, but was held off the scoresheet Saturday against Houston.
The performance that secured Omark the Reebok AHL Player of the Week award was his five-goal outburst in the Barons 7-6 shootout win over Toronto last night. He scored all five goals in succession, beginning with his first coming in the second period and his fifth, a game-tying power-play goal with less than a minute to play.
He is the first AHL player since Juri Tlusty of the Toronto Marlies on February 18, 2009 to score five goals in a game. The last AHL player to score five consecutive goals in a game was Brendan Morrison for the Albany River Rats on April 1, 1998.
Omark’s performance moved him to a tie for the league lead in goals scored with 10 and moves him to the team lead in points scored with 17 (10-7-17). In recognition of his achievement, Omark will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Barons home game.
The Barons waste no time in returning to action as they host San Antonio tomorrow night at the Cox Convention Center at 7:05 p.m. It’s $1 Beer Night with the Barons. Tickets start at $10 and are available two hours prior to faceoff at the Cox Convention Center box office.
