Brule's Momentum Shift

With the Oilers down 1-0 midway through the second period of Friday night's game vs. Detroit, Gilbert Brule single-handidly provided a shift in momentum that helped Edmonton equalize.

Brule hunted Red Wings forward Pavel Datstyuk as he attempted to leave the defensive zone. Brule connected with a thunderous hit and was immediately mobbed by defenceman Jonathan Ericsson. Brule got the better of both Ericsson and Datsyuk, while the Red Wings were assigned an instigator penalty that cost them with a powerplay goal by the Oilers.

Khabibulin Round One: The Glove Tip Wonder

The Oilers didn't get the result they were hoping for Friday night vs. Detroit, but Nikolai Khabibulin did everything in his power to provide his team with a chance.

After the Red Wings re-gained the one-goal advantage, Detroit kept pressuring as they looked to extend the lead. A scramble in front of Khabibulin's crease resulted in a five-star opportunity that Edmonton's netminder literally snatched away. A desperation effort with his glove tipped a puck that was headed toward the back of the net, keeping the game well within reach.

Khabibulin Round Two: Sealing Victory

The Oilers scored two goals in 14 seconds to hold a 2-1 lead over the Blackhawks Sunday night. While Chicago didn't go away, Nikolai Khabibulin shut the door

Two point-blank chances from Chicago's Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane were turned aside in dramatic fashion by the goaltender that was once their teammate. Khaibulin stretched out to make a brilliant toe save off Toews, while the rebound was turned aside by a sprawling stacked-pad effort to maintain the 2-1 edge.
