“Our biggest priority is making sure the kids have a real positive experience, so we’re off to a great start,” said Trevor Murphy, Oilers Manager, Fan and Community Development.
The first stream of players were welcomed on Sunday with registration, orientation and their player packs including Oilers jerseys and other essentials for the week ahead.
With the week underway, there’s been no lack of expert instruction, on-ice skill development, off-ice training and workshops surrounding personal health and wellbeing for the young players.
“It’s such an exciting week,” said a hockey school participant during Monday’s activities. “The variety of training is incredible and I always leave feeling like my skating and overall hockey play has improved.”
To date, a definite highlight of camp was a visit by newly acquired Oilers player and Stanley Cup champion, Colin Fraser.
“Colin was outstanding with these players. He was having some fun with them, cracking jokes and the players were just feeding off that,” said Murphy.
The Oilers Hockey School is in its fourth year and has already been receiving positive testimonials from participants and parents, speaking volumes about the strength and depth of the Oilers Hockey School program.
“It’s a really great experience and it’s probably the best hockey school I’ve ever been to,” commented another hockey school participant.
Murphy noted, “When everyone’s coming together to do something they love, whether it be the coaches providing instruction or the kids developing their hockey sense, it creates a very special and memorable week.”
The first week of hockey school ends on Saturday, July 31 with the second week gearing up on Sunday, August 1.
